Thanks, ladies, for all of the support. :) DH and I are home and he's doing very, very well. He's in some pain but it's manageable.
It's been a real whirlwind. DH's surgery at Mayo was Wednesday and then Thursday we returned to our hotel. We had originally planned to stay in Rochester until today but the weather looked pretty iffy, so we decided to push it and head back on Friday. We're both really glad that we did.

Rose!!! I'm so glad to hear that. ((hugs)) I hope DH continues on an upward path, and I'm glad you got home before the bad weather kicked in. I'm sure you also did 412 workouts while you were gone, in order to shame my sorry *ss! :-)
Ha! Not a single freakin' workout since Tuesday. Plus I pretty much lived on whatever convenience foods I could find.
I did however walk 5000 miles each day traipsing through the Rochester underground, generally lost and completely disoriented.
How can getting to the hotel which was DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET from the hospital at street level take 15 min walking and winding through 5 different corridors underground?
Why do they need 200 different medical supply shops that all look the same?
I *knew* there was a Starbucks down there somewhere, so why couldn't I find it? I generally have a decent sense of direction. Not so much when I'm caffeine-deficient apparently.
And why is that I can go weeks without thinking about diet Coke, but being surrounded by Pepsi machines brings on intense cravings that WON'T BE DENIED???
LOL, Rose! I'm sure the underground was designed by some angry engineer who wanted to revenge himself upon the hapless masses. He (I'm sure it's a he) is probably also the fellow who designed "traffic circles" and "jug handles," which are unique features of NJ roadways that send most non-NJ drivers many, many miles out of their way.
Anyway, I'm glad you guys are back safely. Does DH need to go back to Mayo for check-ups or does the local doc handle those?
The city planners here have recently discovered traffic circles and they are going up like nobody's business. Sigh.
We had an old family friend whose response to a situation like that was always: "That engineer obviously cheated on his exams."
We have one more follow-up appointment in 6-8 weeks (MN in Jan/Feb - lovely) and then we should be done. I can't believe we have been dealing with this for almost a year and a half.
A local doctor will be able to handle anything going forward and DH has already got someone who is familiar with what's been going on.
I am so relieved to hear that you're back home and that everything is on its way to being A-OK! Phew. What a time of year to go through all this!!!
((Rose)) ((Tom))
I'm so relieved everything went smoothly! I hope Tom continues to feel better by the minute. Poor guy.
And poor Rose--if he's like most men he's probably milking the situation for all it's worth. How many times in the last day or two have you heard the words, "Honey, could you bring me [fill in the blank]?"?
LOL, Laura, you are dead-on about him 'milking the situation.' I'm on to him, though.
Not that it's stopping him much. You have no idea how many new pillows I've had to buy in the past month as he planned for his convalescence.
And, naturally, he's not allowed to lift anything heavier than 5-10 lbs for the next 2 months, so I have no doubt that he'll be using that as an excuse for pretty much everything.
